The Opportunity
Westcoast Endeavours ULC is seeking an experienced Excavator Operator for a short-term construction project in Powell River, BC at Pine Tree Community RV Park. The successful candidate will help build and finish access roads and RV pads, working with the site team to complete safe, accurate, and productive earthworks. Westcoast Endeavours ULC will supply Volvo 290 for roadwork and Cat 308 for pad formation; we also have a John Deere Loader on site.
This is a full-time, fixed-term employee position for approximately six to eight weeks. We welcome applicants who are already local to Powell River or who can relocate to Powell River for the full contract period. Accommodation and travel support. Housing at the Park is an option as a part of the job offer.
What You Will Do
You will operate an excavator to construct and prepare roads and RV pads. Your work will include stripping and excavation, cut-and-fill activities, material handling, rough and finish grading, drainage preparation, subgrade shaping, and general site cleanup. You will work to layout, grade, and direction from the site supervisor, coordinate safely with trucks and ground personnel, and help maintain orderly work areas.
You will complete daily pre-operational inspections, identify equipment concerns promptly, and follow the project safety program, safe-work procedures, and all applicable regulatory requirements. You will be expected to use sound judgement around utilities, slopes, changing ground conditions, public access, and other equipment working on site.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must have at least five years of excavator operating experience in construction, civil, land-development, forestry-road, or comparable earthworks environments. Candidates must be able to demonstrate safe, productive excavator operation and competent grading, material placement, and cut-and-fill work.
A valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence, or an equivalent licence accepted for work in BC, is required. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada and able to work in Powell River for the complete six-to-eight-week contract. A current occupational first-aid certificate, site-safety training, and experience completing daily equipment inspections are assets.
Preferred Qualifications
Road-building experience is a strong asset. Preference will be given to candidates with practical experience building or rehabilitating access roads, shaping subgrades, establishing drainage, working with aggregate, and preparing finished pads or building sites. Experience reading grade stakes, working to laser or GPS guidance, and operating complementary equipment is also an asset.
Compensation and Work Terms
The base hourly wage is $30.00–$35.00 per hour, paid as an employee through payroll. Final placement in the range will reflect demonstrated experience with excavator work, road construction, finish grading, project-relevant equipment, and safety record. The intended offer for a fully qualified operator with strong road-building experience is $35.00 per hour.
The anticipated schedule is approximately 40 hours per week for six to eight weeks. Daily start and finish times, overtime eligibility, and any weather-related schedule adjustments will be confirmed before the contract begins. Overtime, vacation pay, statutory holiday pay, and other employment standards will be handled in accordance with applicable BC requirements and the employer’s payroll practices. The employer will provide the excavator and ordinary job-site equipment. Applicants who intend to supply their own machine should identify that in their application, as equipment-inclusive rates require separate discussion.
